Olympic Gold Medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to Endorse the “EAT JAMAICAN” Campaign at the JCDC Regional Culinary Finals

Kingston, Jamaica: Olympic Gold Medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be giving a hearty endorsement of the Eat Jamaican campaign at the JCDC Regional Culinary Finals on Friday May 6. The event will be held at the Chinese Benevolent Association and Ms. Fraser-Pryce will visit at 2pm.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of six Olympic champions who have endorsed the “Eat Jamaican” campaign, aimed at increasing local food production and encouraging consumers to make healthy food choices by eating local produce, fruits and vegetables.

The “Eat Jamaican” Campaign mascot Doctor Bird will also be at the finals offering useful nutritional information and encouraging people to participate in the campaign.

Another feature of the JCDC event will be an “Eat Jamaican” Sing-Off Competition. The JCDC will select at least four primary school choirs from the Eastern region to participate in the competition. The participants will then compete by performing a folk song about Jamaican foods before a panel of three judges. The best choir will be awarded a plaque and other gifts.

Continuing the excitement the event will also include a “Eat Jamaican” Recipe Competition which will seek to identify the chef who has created the most original Jamaican recipe using local produce. The winner will be awarded a plaque and runners up will also receive special gift baskets.

The “Eat Jamaican” campaign which was launched on March 1 at Coronation Market is being funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
