“Eat Jamaican” Road Show for Mandeville next Wednesday

Kingston, Jamaica: Preparations are well underway for the first in a series of Road Shows to promote The “Eat Jamaican” campaign which was launched in Kingston earlier this month.

The Bronx Taxi Park in Mandeville is to take on a carnival atmosphere when Doctor Bird, the campaign mascot and comedians “Ity and Fancy Cat” roll into this mid-island capital on Wednesday, March 30 at 2 pm.

Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Dr. the Honourable Christopher Tufton a tireless advocate for Jamaicans to “eat what they grow and grow what they eat” and Assistant FAO Representative in Jamaica, Dr Gillian Smith will be in attendance to press home the message that the campaign is aimed at increased production and consumption of local produce.

Among the attractions will be sampling of innovative products made by local agro-processors. Jamaica Broilers is the first major company that has come on board to provide extensive displays and sampling at the “Eat Jamaican” road shows. There will also be displays by farmers who will be assisted in their efforts by the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA).

Visitors for this free event will enjoy music and entertainment and they will also get useful information about the nutritional value of local foods and tips for planting up their back yard gardens from the “Eat Jamaican” spokespersons, “Ity and Fancy Cat.” The beloved mascot, Doctor Bird, will meet and greet visitors with handouts.

The “Eat Jamaican” campaign is funded by the European Union Food Facility in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

  1. Listening to Dervan Malcolm on Power 106 - sounds like Mandeville is bubbling with the Eat Jamaican Road Show - he says RADA is doing 'all the right things'
